Hamaki – Making Booking Fun
Hamaki is a website where CMD students at NHL Stenden University can book meetings with their teachers. The old website was outdated and not easy to use, which made the booking process unclear. After doing user research and working with stakeholders, I found that the core of CMD is learning in a fun and creative way. Based on this insight, I developed a new concept for Hamaki. The main idea was to turn teachers into playful character illustrations that react to user actions. For example, the character looks sad when a time slot is full and excited when a meeting is successfully booked. This makes the experience more human and engaging. For the interactive animations, I used Rive, allowing users to interact smoothly with the characters directly on the website. The characters were illustrated by Bita Moatamdi, and together we explored and defined the right illustration style that fits the Hamaki brand. I also rebranded Hamaki by updating the colors and typography. The final result balances friendly and quirky with professional, creating a modern platform that makes booking meetings simple, clear, and enjoyable. For me, this project was a big success. The idea was unique, and turning pixel-style characters into live, animated interactions was challenging but fun. It pushed me to explore creative interaction design in a new way.
